ABOUT MINEMOL

At MineMol, we do not simply trade emeralds. We preserve a tradition.

MineMol is part of the Molina Family, a Colombian family whose history in the emerald industry spans more than seven decades. What began with Parmenio Molina, our grandfather, has evolved into a multi-generational operation built on knowledge, responsibility, and deep respect for one of Colombia’s most precious natural resources.

The Molina Family

The story of MineMol is inseparable from the story of the Molina Family.

Our story is one of heritage, responsibility, and an enduring commitment to the finest Colombian emeralds. It spans four generations of the Molina family, each contributing to the legacy of the Muzo region and to the global reputation of Colombian emerald mining.

The Origin

Parmenio Molina entered the emerald mining sector as a miner in the Peñas Blancas mines, then owned by the Bank of the Republic of Colombia. His integrity, expertise, and leadership earned him industry-wide respect and recognition.

Legacy & Community

Gilberto Molina arrived in Quípama and became a defining figure in emerald mining. Known as the “Czar” of the industry, he formalised operations and pioneered a model of social responsibility, investing in key infrastructure, including the local school, marketplace, town hall, and the Quípama airport, while ensuring that mining benefits extended to the wider community.

Industry Transformation

Under the presidency of Colombian President Misael Pastrana Borrero, emerald mines were closed and later reopened through public tender. In this period, Tecminas, a partnership between Gilberto Molina, Víctor Carranza, and Juan Beetar, became the largest and most productive mining company in Colombia. This restructuring solidified the Molina family’s role in modern emerald mining.

1980s – 2000s

Consolidation

Carlos Molina, son of Parmenio, continued the family legacy, becoming owner of the largest and most productive emerald mines in the Muzo region of Boyacá.
